Covering Up

April 28, 2008

People have always asked me, why do I not defend people of similar faith ?

If they are right, I would defend with every once of my strength. But if they are wrong. I simply say that they are wrong.

Why should we fall into a misconception that Christians must always cover up the mis-doing of other Christians ? Isn’t this one of the main reasons why pre-believers do not believe in our God ? Because of our double standards ?

Lets call black, black. And white, white.

Case and point, I’ve heard of reports of missionaries in third world countries who tell the poor people “If you believe in Christ, we’ll give you a shirt !”

Now what rubbish is that ? You trade Christ for a shirt ?

Human rights advocates call these actions religious coercion.  I agree. Its nonsense.

For you non-believers who are now thinking if a anti-Christian is writing this post. No I’m not, but I believe that the gospel message should be preached without strings attached.

God Communicates His Way

April 28, 2008

Today I dropped by a pump station to grab a hot meal. Just as I was pulling a pao(chinese bread stuffed with meat) from the oven and sadly the pao broke almost in two.

I placed the 2 paos in the bag, made my payments and headed back home. It was raining cats and dogs and there I was sitting on my little bed drenched from the gloomy rain.

I sadly opening up the bag, bowed my head and prayed. “God thank you for this ……. broken pao”

Before I could finish, the Lord poked fun and jokingly said “Take this in remembrance of me…”

Its almost funny when God communicates with His creation like He would with friends.

Testimony Without Words

April 25, 2008

Loud words and big theological terms do not impress me.

I’m most impressed when I see a person who life overflows the presence of God. One whose actions amplify the love of Christ.

These speak louder than mere words.

Furious Bible Knowledge

April 24, 2008

People believe that remembering verses from the bible makes one a matured Christian.

People believe that with a bible in hand, the devil flees.

People believe that when you quote the bible furiously a demon possessed man will be delivered.

How far is that from the truth.

Its not the mouthing of scripture but the application of the Word Of God.

Look here. The devil can probably quote the bible better than you.

Matthew 4:5-6

5   Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6   And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

All Is Never Lost

April 24, 2008

In our Christian walk, we ALL make mistakes and fall. Falling is not the problem. Not getting back up on our feet is THE problem.

Christians fall into a state of depression believing in a lie that they can never get up or come back to God.

You hear reasons like…. sin is too great, we have committed the same sin too many times and God will never forgive. All is lost and I will never make it back.

Let me point out one fact- There is no sin too great which the Blood of Jesus cannot cleanse.

I want to tell you that God loves you still. HE will wait all your life for you to come back.

All you need is to repent and ask for forgiveness. Repentance starts in the heart and not the mouth.

God Hears

April 22, 2008

I remembered a time when I was young lad, it was a gloomy evening and I had a terrible day at school. Somehow everything seems bleak and I felt that God seemed distant.

I knelt on my little knees and prayed a child’s prayer “God, if you still love me, let a sparrow sit on my window tomorrow morning as I wake up”

Now, I lived in a place whereby birds are not frequently seen (Crows yes, sparrows no). And in my little heart, I just wanted to know that God still loved me and just wanted something to cheer me up.

I woke up the next morning remembering the little prayer I’ve made. Deep in me, I told myself that even if God does not put a bird on the window, its ok. Its not that important anyway.

But in my little heart I just felt that something would be at the window. So to the window I crept and I drew the curtains.

My entire window grill was filled with little brown sparrows. Tears filled my eyes and I fell to my knees in worship. Knowing that the Almighty God loves hears the little me.

People say that God speaks only through bible and nothing else.

But if we just open our eyes to see, ears to hear, we realise that God is talking all the time, be it through a gentle voice or even His creation.

We keep God in a box by believing that God can only move this way and speak this way. But I have been proven wrong many times. God is still supreme, He decides how He wishes to speak to us. Many times while driving, God spoke through the music (sometimes its not Christian either) causing my eyes to well up with tears.

When God Keeps Silent

April 20, 2008

Let me bring you one step further. This post is something which not everybody will understand. Here I go.

The Holy Spirit when grieved, keeps silent and maintains His distance. He stays in a corner waiting for us to respond or invite him back into our lives.

Now, the opposite is also true. When the Lord is pleased, He shares his heart and intents to His people, like a close friend would speak to one another.

That is the beginning whereby our hearts can begin to understand the Lord’s heart and allow our hearts to beat in tandem with His.

My “Unpleasant” God

April 20, 2008

We grow in a era whereby we are brought up to believe that God has lost his right to chastise his people because of Jesus’s death on the cross.

We have grown to think that God will quietly bear with our nonsense and not chastise or reprimand.

Let me take you to a verse in the NT and not the OT to clarify my point. Heb 12:7 “It is for discipline that you endure;”God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline”

I believe firmly that if we ask the Lord to speak to us and correct us. He will. Its not pleasant, its not easy, but only though this process will be become more like Him.

Pro 16:2 “All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight; But the Lord weighs the motives”
